The Role


As Technology Infrastructure & Cyber Engineer, you will provide hands-on engineering ownership across Covalent’s site technology environment, spanning IT/OT infrastructure, networks, systems and cyber security controls. You will design, deploy, support and improve these services, act as an escalation point for complex issues, and help ensure critical systems are secure, documented, recoverable and performing to agreed service levels.


You’ll work across a broad site technology environment, including network and wireless infrastructure, firewalls, endpoint security, Windows/VMware platforms, Microsoft 365, Azure, backups, disaster recovery and OT-adjacent infrastructure. You'll be part of an established technology team and report to the Superintendent Technology Operations & Cyber Security.


This role will suit an experienced technology engineer with strong depth in one or more areas of infrastructure, networking or cyber, and the willingness to work across the full site technology environment.


This is a Permanent full-time FIFO position ex Perth to our Mt Holland Site on an 8:6 roster.

 

 

Key Responsibilities 
•    Design, deploy and improve site technology infrastructure across systems, networks and cyber security platforms and OT-adjacent environments.
•    Support and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, acting as an escalation point for incidents and service-impacting problems.
•    Implement and manage cyber security controls, including perimeter security, endpoint protection, and security configuration, audits and hardening.
•    Maintain secure, documented and reliable infrastructure services in line with agreed service levels.
•    Support infrastructure lifecycle management, including upgrades, configuration, performance, security, backup and recovery activities.
•    Contribute to disaster recovery readiness, including backup validation and recovery testing.
•    Participate in change management and work closely with vendors, service providers and internal stakeholders.
•    Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, security, performance and maintainability.
•    Provide technical expertise to support new and improved technology services across the business.
•    Work safely and in line with site, statutory and Covalent requirements, contributing to a strong health, safety and operational discipline culture.

 

Role Requirements
•    At least five years’ technology engineering experience across infrastructure, networking, systems or cyber security.
•    Proven experience in several core areas, such as routing and switching, enterprise and outdoor wireless, firewalls, Windows Server and VMware, Microsoft 365 and Azure, or endpoint security.
•    Some exposure to OT/ICS environments, or enthusiasm to develop it on a mine and plant operation.
•    Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and acting as an escalation point.
•    Relevant IT qualifications or equivalent practical experience.
•    Strong documentation, problem-solving, prioritisation and stakeholder communication skills.
•    The ability to work autonomously, remain calm under pressure and contribute effectively within a broader technology team.
•    Exposure to mining, manufacturing, oil and gas or other operational environments would be highly regarded.
•    Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Palo Alto PCNSA, VMware VCP, Dragos DPCU, Azure Security/Administrator, Microsoft Security Certifications (Associate or Expert Level)  CompTIA, CISSP or ITIL v4 would be advantageous.
