The Role
The Condition Monitoring Technician is an integral member of the Refinery Operations Maintenance Team. The CM Technician is responsible for completing routine condition monitoring related tasks and inspections on all refinery equipment.
The CM Technician plays a key role in developing and embedding a proactive condition monitoring program that supports safe, reliable, and efficient processing plant operations. Condition monitoring activities will directly contribute to improved equipment reliability, reduced downtime, and long-term asset performance.
This position works with the Maintenance Supervisors, Process Supervisors, Trades, Planners and Engineers to maintain the asset health and performance of equipment
This is a full-time, permanent position, on a 5/2 roster based at our Kwinana Refinery
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct routine condition monitoring of rotating and static equipment using vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and oil analysis.
• Perform lubrication tasks including greasing, oil changes, and lubricant sampling in accordance with OEM and site-specific standards.
• Analyze lubricant samples for contamination, wear particles, and degradation to identify early signs of equipment failure.
• Maintain and update lubrication schedules, routes, and records in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures related to lubrication or mechanical wear.
• Collaborate with reliability engineers to optimize lubrication practices and extend equipment life.
• Assist in the selection and specification of lubricants suitable for high-temperature, corrosive, and dusty environments typical of lithium processing.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures during all maintenance activities.
• Train and mentor junior technicians on lubrication best practices and condition monitoring techniques.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Actively lead and participate in the establishment of a health and safety culture, leading by example, and setting the required health and safety standards.
Role Requirements
• 10+ years in commissioning or maintenance in a mineral processing facility, including at least 5 years in a similar role.
• Australian Recognised Trade Certificate or Engineering Degree
• Strong understanding of lubrication fundamentals, contamination control, and oil analysis interpretation.
• Experience working in heavy industry or mineral processing environments, ideally lithium or similar.
• Proficiency with condition monitoring tools and software.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• ISO CAT I Vibration Analyst Certification (or equivalent) – preferred.
• ICML MLA I (Machinery Lubrication Analyst Level I) certification – preferred.
