The Role
The Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in delivering accurate, reliable, and timely analytical results that support refinery operations and product quality.
Working within a shift team, this role requires a strong commitment to safe work practices, quality systems, and consistent execution, as well as a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement. Laboratory Technicians are expected to take ownership of their work, contribute positively to team culture, and support the development of robust laboratory systems.
This is a permanent full time position based at our Kwinana Refinery on a split sportsman roster.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Care & Compliance
• Actively contribute to a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture
• Perform all tasks in accordance with Covalent SHE&C requirements, statutory obligations, and laboratory procedures
• Report incidents, hazards, and near misses, and participate in investigations where required
• Demonstrate care for personal safety and the safety of others in all laboratory activities
Quality & Accountability
• Conduct analytical testing in accordance with approved methods, QA/QC requirements, and agreed standards
• Ensure procedures are followed consistently and deviations are escalated appropriately
• Identify and report QC non conformances to the Laboratory Supervisor
• Participate in laboratory and quality audits as required
Technical & Operational Delivery
• Operation, calibration, maintenance, and verification of laboratory instruments
• Perform analytical techniques including:
o ICP, AAS, UV Vis, colour and spectrophotometric analyses
o Titration (manual and instrumental)
o Water quality testing
o Fusion, digestion, and leaching of samples
o Particle sizing (laser diffraction and sieving)
o Gravimetric analysis
o Sample preparation (dewatering, filtration, splitting, pressing, grinding)
• Use LIMS accurately and consistently to record and manage data
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
• Work collaboratively with laboratory team members across shifts to ensure consistency and reliability
• Contribute ideas and observations that support laboratory improvement, efficiency, and quality outcomes
• Support training and knowledge sharing within the team when required

Role Requirements
• 3–5 years’ experience in mining, minerals processing, or chemical processing laboratories
• Demonstrated experience working within QA/QC systems
• Experience with ICP or AAS, auto titrators, and UV Vis
• Knowledge of laser particle sizing and/or sieving techniques
• Experience with sample preparation equipment (pulveriser, press, riffle splitter) – desirable
• Experience with fusion and digestion protocols – desirable
