The Role

 

The Senior Analyst Commercial provides commercially rigorous analysis, contract-management support and decision advice across Covalent Lithium’s mining, concentrator and refinery operations. 


This role supports operational and executive stakeholders to improve the performance of major contracts, strengthen commercial discipline and identify value-adding opportunities that are practical, risk-informed and aligned with long-term business outcomes.


Operating with a high level of autonomy, the role leads and supports complex commercial assignments, develops clear recommendations and works directly with operational managers, general managers, contract owners, Procurement, Finance and other commercial stakeholders. The position balances commercial value, operational practicality, contractual obligations, risk, governance requirements and senior leadership priorities.


This is a Permanent, full-time position, based between our Perth CBD office & our Kwinana Refinery.

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Support the commercial management of major operational and strategic contracts across mining, concentrating, refining and shared services. Maintaining a high degree of accountability for assigned commercial matters and contract-management activities, and working autonomously with operational management as part of the Commercial function and escalating material matters to the Commercial Manager.
  • Analyse contract performance, expenditure, commitments, forecasts, service delivery, compliance, obligations and emerging risks, and engage with operational management, contract owners and other stakeholders to develop and implement recommendations that improve efficiency, commercial outcomes and value retention.
  • Prepare decision-ready commercial analysis, business cases, scenarios, briefing papers and recommendations for operational and executive stakeholders.
  • Identify value leakage, avoidable cost, productivity opportunities, contract optimisation opportunities and commercial risks, and translate findings into practical actions.
  • Lead assigned negotiations and contract matters, and support more complex or material variations, claims, extensions, renewals and disputes, ensuring that recommendations, approvals and implementation comply with contractual obligations, delegated authorities and governance requirements.
  • Monitor supplier and contractor performance, analyse trends and support corrective actions, performance reviews and improvement plans.
  • Partner with contract owners and cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen accountability, commercial discipline, contractual compliance and governance.
  • Integrate financial, operational, contractual and supplier-performance data to deliver reliable forecasts, dashboards, management reporting and executive insights.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen commercial systems, controls, workflows, data quality and benefits tracking.
  • Operate autonomously across Perth, Kwinana and Mount Holland to analyse and resolve commercial matters within the role’s delegated authority, provide robust recommendations to operational and senior stakeholders, and escalate matters requiring approval or involving material contractual, financial, operational, legal or governance implications.

 

Role Requirements

 

  • A university degree in Engineering, Finance, Commerce, Economics or another relevant discipline.
  •  At least six years of relevant experience in commercial, corporate finance, business development, contract management, operational analysis or a related field.
  • Previous commercial or analytical experience within the resources sector, including analysis and management of material contracts, expenditure, performance, risk and value opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business cases, commercial or financial models, scenarios, forecasts and executive-level recommendations.
  • Experience partnering with operational managers and senior stakeholders, working autonomously on complex assignments and managing competing priorities.
  • Experience supporting negotiations and material contract events, including variations, claims, extensions, renewals or performance interventions.
  • Strong commercial judgement, analytical capability, written communication, stakeholder management, negotiation and contract-management skills; CA, CFA or an equivalent professional credential is desirable.
  • Previous experience across lithium mining, concentrating and refining. This is highly regarded but not essential.
  • Ability to work across Perth and Kwinana and undertake routine travel to Mount Holland, expected to be approximately four to five days per month, with additional travel as reasonably required.
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or possession of a valid visa with work entitlement in Australia.
